5 Reasons to Enjoy The Historic Inns of Kennebunkport

#1. To get away
Whether you’re planning a last minute vacation or a honeymoon for next year, Kennebunkport and the Historic Inns make a perfect getaway choice. Our convenient location on the Southern Maine Coast, only 90 minutes from Boston and half an hour from Portland, assures that getting here will not be a chore. Yet once you are here, you’ll feel a world away.

Each of the Historic Inns and their Innkeepers specializes in creating a unique getaway experience for you. If your idea of the perfect getaway is sitting beside a wood burning fire with a glass of California Pinot Noir, we have the perfect Inn for you. If a getaway requires that you stay connected, you’ll find wireless Internet available. If outdoor adventure is a requisite of your getaway, just ask your Innkeeper and you’ll be directed to one of his or her favorite spots.

If you just want to get away, we hope that you’ll allow us to be your guides. After all, as innkeepers, we’ve decided to make Kennebunkport our home and we’re only too pleased to share the area’s secrets with you.

#2. Romance
Can anyone deny the connection between luxurious historic inns and romance? The two go so easily hand in hand. At the Historic Inns of Kennebunkport you can be assured that your innkeepers will be happy to attend to every detail of your romantic escape. The Inns are often chosen as destination honeymoon and anniversary spots because of the lavish amenities and historic setting that they offer. You’ll find both wood-burning and gas fireplaces, whirlpool bathtubs and jetted showers, pillow top beds, designer linens and dedicated, personalized service among other choice amenities. If your idea of romance is a private carriage ride through the village followed by an intimate candlelit dinner, we’ll be happy to make arrangements. Or, if you’d like to propose to your significant other on the decks of a three-masted schooner, we’ll call the captain and fill him in. Of course, if your idea of romance is to be left completely alone with your companion, that’s no problem at all.

We are eager to share our Kennebunkport with you, but we are also keenly aware that your romantic escape is not about us. We’re content to provide as much or as little input as you request.

#3. Fine Dining
Kennebunkport has earned its reputation as one of New England’s top dining destinations because of the exceptional quality of our many diverse restaurants. From casual clam shacks to the ultimate five-star and five-diamond dining experience, our small village offers dozens of unique culinary experiences.

The setting of Kennebunkport alone is worth a visit, but the opportunity to enjoy fine dining while overlooking the Atlantic Ocean should not be passed up.

#4. Seacoast Scenery
From the jagged rocks that frame Ocean Avenue to the miles of white sand that grace Goose Rocks Beach, the Southern Maine Coast offers a dramatic yet soothing setting for your vacation getaway. Lighthouses and lobster boats mark the coastline and offer a glimpse into the history of the region whose economy has been dependent on the ocean since the 1600’s.

Kennebunkport makes a fantastic base from which to explore the coast and western mountains and lakes region. If you feel like a lazy afternoon, your innkeeper can suggest a route that will take you along the coast, through fishing harbors and beach communities and by a number of historic lighthouses, which are still in service today. If you’re feeling a bit more ambitious and want to take a whole day expedition, there is a great driving route that will lead you through the lakes region, towards Sebago Lake and into Fryeburg, home of the Fryeburg Fair, and then loops back through the foothills of Southern Maine.

Staying local could mean enjoying the hiking at Laudholm Farm or the Rachel Carson Reserve and discovering the confluence of two tidal estuaries, or kayaking the Kennebunk River, or even a walk out on the flats in Cape Porpoise Harbor. Whatever your reason for coming to Kennebunkport, you’re sure to be impressed by the natural beauty of Southern Maine and our coastal village.
